Wintario draw Aug. 3 at Iroquôis Park Arena, one of the biggest events of this year's County Town Carnival wÎUa take place. From 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Global, Television will tele- cast live the first Wintario draw ever to be held in Whitby. A fun-filled evening is planned for the night of the Wintario draw as Bert Heaver combines his County Town Carnival Talent Show-. case with the draw itself. From 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the Talent Showcase will take place, featuring thÂe Whitby Brass Band, County Town Singers, Cunnolly Dancers, Bob Mitchell on the saxaphone, and solo singers Norm Kitney, Joann Drumm and Garvin Farr. At 9 p.m. there will bc the Wintario Draw with Fred Davis and Faye Dance as co-hosts, and the Town of Whitbywill be featured in a one-minute television spot- light. Tickets for the Wintario show are $2 apiece and will be available July 21 at local retailers still to be announ- ced. Mr. Heaver expects a crowd of 2,500 people to fiI the arena for the Wintario draw and variety show. I liOBITUARIESI JOHN SPRAGGE Brig. John Godfrey Spragge, former general manager of the Lîquor Control Board 0f Ontario, and a resident 0f R.R. 1 Ashburn, since 1969, died at the Dr. J. O. Ruddy Hospital July 1 at the age of 71. Brig. Spragge was born in Ottawa, a son of the late Godfrey and Jessie Spragge. He served for about 30 years . in the active and reserve army, joining as a reserve rifleman in 1924, while working for Disillers Corpora 'tion of Canada in London Ont. 1 In 1940 he was second in command of the Queen's Own Rifles of Toronto when they went overseas in the S.acond World War, and led the regiment when it took part in the invasion of Normiandy on 1)-vay, June 6, 1944. For his military service, Brig. Spragge was awarded the OBE, DSO and ED. H1e left active service in 1946 to take command of the Fourth Canadian infantry Brigade Reserve, and a year later was appointed comp- troller of the LCBO, a posi- tion which he held until 1950 when he was made chief ".dministrator 0f the Liquor Licence Board. Brig. Spragge retired to Ashburn in 1969 and is sur- vived by, his wife, the former mary Dunlop, and sister, Miss Nancy Spragge. H1e was predeceased by two brothers William and Peter Spragge. A family service was held July 3 at St. Thpmas Angli- can Church, Brooklin, fol- lowed_-by interment in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Columbus. A memorial ser- vice will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Bloor Street, Toronto today at 4 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to the Wellesley Hospital Research Founda- tion. JOHANNES BEYERBERGEN Johannes Cornelius Beyersbergen, 114 Keith Street, died July 4 at the Dr. J. O. Ruddy Hospital at the age of 78. Born Aug. 30, 1899 at Den Haag, Holland, he was a son of the late Johannes and Cornelia Beyersbergen. He was employed for a number of years as a bgker at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Mr. Beyersbergen is sur- vived by his wife, the former Alita Hoogstad; two sons, Willem of Whitby and Bob of Toronto; one sister, Mrs. Maria DeVries, of Oshawa; and two grandchildren. The funeral was held July 7 at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, Pastor Ralph Dunn officiating. Interment followed in Groveside Cepetery, Brooklin. IREYK VAN VLIET -,A prominent member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Reyk Van Viiet, 400 Pitt Street West, died at the Dr. J. O. Ruddy Hospital July 1 at the age of 56. Born July 19, 1921 at Scheveningen, Holland, he was a son of,/ the late Gysbertus Van Vliet and Elizabeth Van Veen. Mr. Van Vliet was a self- employed accountant and financial consultant. He was one of the original founders of the Unionville branch of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in 1957, and held the office of eider for many years. 11e also held the off ice of Treasurer of the General Synod for the United States and Canada and was denomi- national appointee of the Netheriands Reforined Congregation to the Govern- ment of Canada. Mr. Van Viiet was Chair- man for Canada of the Board of Directors of the Savings Friends of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. H1e is survived by his wife, the former Marie Wilhel- mina Zeegers, whom he married at the Hague, Netherlands, Oct. 29, 1948. Mr. Van Viiet is also survived by two sons, Nicholas Jacobus Matthys (Nico) of Guelph and Jan of Kingston; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Vander Loo (Elizabeth) of Whitby and Mrs. Richard Coates (Wilhelmina> of Keswick; f ive sisters, Miss Gijsbertua Van Viiet of Holland, mrs. C.J. Norrduyn (Dien) of Ancaster, Ont., mrs. Cornelia Loade r of Holland, Mrs. Elizabeth (Lies) Geeri- ing of Norwich, Ont.,, and Mrs. W. C. L. Van Leeuwen (Miep) of Tottenham Ont., a brother, Cor Van Vliet of Norwich Ont., and two grandchildren. The funeral was held July 4 at the Hebron Christian Reformed Church, Whitby, Rev. Weststrate officiating. Interment followed in Grove- side Cemetery, Brooklin. GEORGE PARZYNSKI A well-known downtown businessman, George William Parzynski (Georgé the Barber), died July 7, suddenly at bis residence, 916 Bayview Avenue. Mr. Parzynski, who was born in Berlin, Germany, had operated a barber shop in Whitby for many years. He is survived by his wife, the former Anita Zahrndt, and one sister, Gertrude Kommert, of Berlin, Germany. The funeral was held July 10 at W. C. Town Funeral Chapel, Rev. R. Wragg officiatingi.
