AIB freezes rates, for haulage firm North American Van Lines, which has its head office in Whitby, learned last week, its haulage rates have been frozen by the anti-inflation board. The Me~ imposed the rate freeze on the company because, according to an AIB report, the company posted excess revenue of $45,1000. The company liad given the AIB permission to publish the amount of lits excess earnings, unlike nine other businesses named in the board's report. North American Van Lines was oneC of 50 companies whose excess revenues totalled $37,144,000, the AIB reported. To date the AIB has published the names of 71 9 « companies for generating $224,510,000 in excess revenue. There have been a total of 882 excess revnuerevenue cases, according to the AIB report.. The ATB guidelines require firms , to follow prici'ng policies which cover allow- able costs, plus a limited mârgin of profit. If the profit Amargin exce eds' the guide- ulnes during *the compliance period, "'excess revenue"~ is generated and the company must submit a complianl plan for returning the monvy to themarketplace. . North American Van Lines chose a rate freeze as its compliance method. Liquor board appro 1vesI icence The Royal Hotel, has recei ved approval of its application for an outside patio licence from the Liquor Licencing Boaid of Ontario, but it is up to the Town ef Whitby to decide whether the hotel may proceed with the building of the proposed patio. The town council referred the hotel's application for a beer patio licence to the LLBO af ter receiving a number of petitions for and against the proposaI.
