DATES TO REMEMBER Durham Region ýcon ducts travel survey The Planning Department of' theRegional Municipality 0f Durham in co-operation with the Ontario Mirfistry of Transportation and Communications bas iniiaeda region-wide Travel Survey to obtain - 'formation on the present I -[atterns of Durham residen ts. According to Walter Beath, Chairman of the Region of Durham, "This is the first comprehensive region-wide survey of personal travel patterns in Durham. The information obtained from the survey will be utilized in planning studies at the provincial, regional and municipal level and will benefit all three l"vels of goveroment". Information will be col- lected from Durham bouse- holds through telephone interviews and will be used to determine future trans- portation needs which would guide the development of transportation facilities and services in the Region. With the information obtained from this survey, transpor- tation planners will be able to estimate the need for transportation facilities which will be required for new residential, industrial, and commercial develop- ment within the Region. For example, the information from the survey would assist in determining road access ,requirements to new industrial areas in the Region, analyzing the transportation requirements for downtown and shopping areas and planning of GO Tra nsit services. will be used only in statistical summaries for planning purposes. The co-operation of those persons who w8,ill be called on during the survey is necessary to assist in the plannfing 0f better transpor- tation facilities. As Mr. Beath stated: "The survey will be an excellent step forward in "regional1 planning" in its broadest sense.
