(to be offered again in the next l-week session because flot enough people signed up for the current session). Most children taking these classes can take exams at the end of the year and al participate in a recital with costumes, says Miss Lester. Exceptional children are taught extra routines for competition work Miss Lester says ballet is excellent for gymnasts, but gymnastics is bad for baller- mnas. Even children who aren't exceedingly talented enjoy the class and they are great for children and adults with weight problems, says Miss Lester. Classes are held in the Henry Street High School Cafetoriumn, and are taught by Denise Lester, who has been a teacher in the Whîtby area for six years. Miss Lester also has her own dance school in Pickering and teaches for the Ajax Recreation Department. Miss Lester has had 18 years of training and has taught children of ail ages. At a very early age she danced with the famed 'Kerov Ballet' at the O'Keefe Centre. Miss Lester also passed an, audition for Canadian talent and was picked to dance at Ontario Place in 1972. In 1973 she did a Special Education program on Channel 19, Toronto. Miss Lester bas been a gold medal winner for several years at many dance festivals. Through the YMCiN she is offering classes on Kl1ondays and Thursdays at' Henry Street High School. On Mondays there is beginners' ballet for five years and up at 6 p.m., Grae 1e1 and 2 ballet at 7 p.m., Grade 3 tap and jazz at 8 p.m. and adult jazz at 9 p.m. On Thursdays there is beginners tap and jazz for from provincia grants, 44.9 par , cent froen iuniciapi taxation, 3.9 per cent from licences and permits and 1.6 par cent frorn grants in lieu of taxes, Mr. Wallace told the Chamber mexnbers. The Town of Whitby bas a $4,673.456 budget, said Mr. Wallace, and -the tax dollar is spent in the following- way: protective inspection, 2.4 par cent; fire protection, 18.7 par cent; general government, 14.3 par cent; planning and development, 4.6 par cent; library, 7.3 per cent; recreation, 13.9 par cent; health, social and family services, 6.4 par cent; garbage collection, 6.4 par cent; and public works and roads. 31.3 per cent.
