Bahi, humbugi With Ah these seasonal additions, house- hold hazards multiply, and homeowners have to be particularly careful. When you buy your Christmas tree, check forý freshness. 'The branches should spring back when you bend them and the nee- dies should be briglit green. Bump the tree base hard on the ground and be sure that the needles don't fall; check the bottom of the stump to see that it is sappy and moist. Once 'you make your purchase, store the tree onit- doors-«in a place that is pro- tected froin sun and wind, to conserve moisture. When you bring the tree inside, saw off an inch or two ofi the butt end to facilitate water uptake, and place the tree in a holder sturdy enough to anchor it (a holder for a five to six-foot tree should have tripod legs with a spread of 20" to-30"). Water the tree daily and keep it away from beat sources: the fireplacé, TV, radio, etc. Place breakable ornaments high up on the tree, out of reach of chli- dren, and pets, and use only fireproof decorations made of metal, glass or asbestos. Combine whipping cream, colifectioners' sugar, vanifla and sour cream and beat to the consistency of whipping. cream (about two minutes). Use this as a pattern or stencil for drawing and cutting out il more tri- angle borde rs. Next, cut out 12 pieces ofcellopliane slightly larg- er than the open center of the triangles. Apply. clear glue to one side- of each triangle border, spreadlng it sparingly 'on all three bars or the border. Next place a piece of cellophane over ecditriangle border, completely' co'è'ring the center opening. Allow tliem to dry while you assemble smnall, designs from old -Christmas cards, bits'of foil, little stars, beads and other odds and ends that can-be- used to decôrate six of the cellophane windows of the orniament. Carefully glue your dec: orations to six of the win* dows and let thern dry. Then spread a very tliiw film of glue evenly over the six undecorated win dows and place one plain win- dow over a decorateci one. Place a large book or oth- er heavy object over the glued-together triangles for a few minutes to make sure that the cellophane win- dows and triangle borders stay together. You should now have six "stained glass"" triangles. Trim off excess ce llophane. When the windows have --dried, arrange three win- dowsin a row (in a flat sur- 'face, decorated side down, 50 that- the center one lies flush against the- other bor- ~ders. Do>n't 'allow sides to over- lap. Place a s'trip of trans- parent plastic tape over the touching borders. Then, fold the taped joints to form a three-sided triangle or pyramid with the decorated. sides of the windows facing out. Tape the open edges ~togetlier.- Repeat this pro- cedure with the other three windows and join the two pyramnids at their bases with tape.
