Thursday, March 22 is a Fitness centre report due mi a month Within the next month the town council is expected to receive a report on whetber the town should build a fit- ness centre at Iroquois Park.. Recreation 'Director Wayne DeVeau*reports that tbe results of a survey under- laken last. September regar- ding a second ice pad, are completed, and the study may influence the fate of anY fitness centre. In 1978 Councillor Bob Attersley came out strongly in favor of a fitness centre at Iroquois Park- ini is inaugu- ral address to council, and persuaded the council to iii- clude $10,000 in its budget for tbe study. Results of tbe survey were completed about a week .prior to the municipal elec- tion last fail, and the matter was withhçld so it would n9t become an election issue. Mr. DeVeau decided to wait until after the 1979 budget had been set before presenting the results of the survey, 50 the new council could deal with it once it was firmly in place. Mr. DeVeau said he was in no hwrry to have the matter discussed, because the town would need a population of at least 30,000 before a fitness centre would be financially feasible. Rushton,' Shannon and Associates wil be paid $7,000 for their market survey of some 300 to 400 homes wbich weré telephoned at random, à nd 24 survey questions asked._ If council accepts the idea of a fitness centre, Totten Sims Hubicki Associates Ltd. will be paid $3,000 to prepare a plan. full day of high activity as they Y presents "The Mini- ,Olympies".
