Mayor Jim Gartshore eut a cake to mark the 25th anniversary of the Bank of Montreal in Whitby at a private reception Thursday, and was presented with a framed sketch of the old post office which stood on the site where the bank is now located. The sketch, presented by the Bank of Montreal to the Town of Whitby, was the original drawing by Diek Wilson, a Montreal artist, taken fromn a 25-year-old photograph of the Four Corners. The bank opened March 1, 1954 in the building beside the post office, now oecupied by Donald Travel. 1Copies of the sketch were handed out Saturday to visi- tors to an open house at the bank. At the ceremonies Thurs- day, two-volume sets of the history of the Bank of Mon- treal were presented to David Watson, Chairman of the Whitby PubliceLUbrary Board and Margaret Kennedy, president of the. Whitby Historical Soeiety. Braneh Manager Joe Sharp aeted as host for the evening, and comments were muade by Jed- Purcell, Senior Vice-President for Ontario Division, and Regio- nal District Manager Gord MacAskill. The two accused appeared in Court last Friday to be sentenced and were again remanded to April 20 for sentencing. Jugde Edmond- son had not been presented with the pre-sentence report on the two accused until just " moments prior to Court" on Friday morning. Mr. Donnelly pleaded guilty to one charge of oh- structing the C.P.R. lines and Mr. -Clemmenson pleaded guilty to two charges of obstrucing the Canadian Pacifie Railway lines with railway ties, when they appeared in Whitby Court the first week of March.
