PAGE 2, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11, 1979, WHITBY FREE PRESS Otter Creek residents demand lights for Dundas and D'Hillier Streets At a regular meeting of the Cotncil a petition bearing 300 names was presented to Council by Councillor Gerry Emm. He said he had received the petition from the resi- dents of the Otter Creek Area, demanding traffic lights be installed at the Dundas and D'Hillier Street intersection. Councillor Emm said that traffic lights at this intersec-, tion are especially urgent because the development of the Otter Creek and West Lynde subdivisions is caus- ing a rapid build-up of traffic. "It is chaotic in the morn- ing trying to get out onto Dundas Street. The volume of traffic has increased dramatically," he said. Earlier this year the Coun- cil passed a by-law authoriz- ing the spending of $25,000 for each of several traffic .. VITOc,4o, 1. The petition helps the Council to try again to obtain a Provincial subsidy for traf- fic light installation at busy intersections in Town. Earlier this year the Town authorities requested the Province for $100,000 for the installation of traffic lights, but only $9,000 has been received for this purpose. Councillor Emm pointed out that 'traffic .ights had been installed at the Dundas Street-Lupin Drive intersec- tion six years ago and "we stili haven't received the money for it."I The Whitby Public Works Department reported it had been advised by George Ashe MPP for Durham West, "if a formaI request for these signals is made by the Town to the Ministry of Transpor- tation and Communicatins. there is a possibility of allo- cation of funds for this project. The petition presented to Council by the Otter Creek residents has been for- warded to the Provincial Government. As the petition was sent to George Ashe, rnembers of the Council agreed that another effort should be made for the installation of traffic lights at some of the other busy intersections in Town. In particular they are try- ing to have traffic lights installed at the intersection of Brock and Burns street.
