SCIENCE FAIR The Durham Region Science Fair will be held in April 19 and 20 at Henry Street High School. Displays will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 19th and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 20th. DAFFODIL SHOW The Brooklin Horticultural Society will hold its first flower show of the year on April 25, at 8 p.m. in the Brooklin United Church Hall. At the same meeting, Ray Halward from the Royal 600 LASCO employees return to work after 27-day strike The 600 Employees of Lake Ontario Steel Company ended their 27-day strike April 10 by voting 70 per cent in favor of a new contract. Included in the contract is the company's original offer of a 30-cent-an-hour wage increase in the first of three years and 15 cents in the second and third years. A cost of living allowance extends throughout the con- tract as well as an improved vacation schedule which allows for employees to receive four-weeks vacation after il years, to be imple- mented in the first year of the agreement, and four weeks after 10 years, to begin in the second year. There will also be an increased vacation bonus of 30 per cent if holidays are taken in the summer and 40 per'cent if taken during the winter. The bonus takes ef- fect in the first year of the contract and will be increased by 10 per cent in the second year. The union, the United Steelworkers of America, Local 6571, did not receive increases in shif t and Sunday premiums which it wanted, but did win a production bonus of between $800 and $1,000 for each employee. This bonus had been offered by the company with a provision that it would be taken away if the union membership rejected LASCO's first offer.
