Cont'd from P. 6 most dangerous people," she said as she pointed out that Canada was "founded on a partnership, and anyone who has been married 24 years knows it is hard to keep a partnership at- times but there are benefits in spite of the occasional disagree- ments, which in themselves go toward the cementing of partnerships." Mrs. Pigott concluded by saying, "don't be mislead into thinking the country is George. Ashe, MPP for Durham West Riding ail- nounced last week that the Minister of Transportation and Communications is pre- pared to include the installa- tion of traffic signals at Dundas Street and D'Hillier Street in Whitby for $27,000 in the 1979 program. This amount is in addition to $275,000 being provided by MTC to the Town of Whitby in 1979 for completion of the Brock Street Subway at the CPR, and a further $9,000 from MTC to the Town of Whitby this year for inter- connection of traffic signals on Brock Street and Dunlop, Dundas and Mary Streets. In 1978, the Town of Whitby received from MTC, $715,000 in connecting link funds for work on the Brock Street Subway, and a further $55,000 for the traffic signals at Dundas at Gerrard, Dun- das at Garden and Brock at Dunlop, all in Whitby. Mr. Ashe explained that almost 200 mun 'icipalities in Ontario have connecting links. The Ministry of Trans- portation and Communica- tions requests from thèse municipalities any projects they would like to have placed on a five year pro- gram. Unfortunately, the Ministry does not have suffi- cient funds. to meet all the requests, and uses the five year program to determine the most urgent projects submitted which can be accommodated within the available funds for the cur- rent year. As the -year progresses, some projects included from other municipalities may be cancelled or delayed for var- ious reasons. If this should happen in 1979, the Minister of Transportation and Com- munications has stated that further con4ideration will be given to including signals for Brock Street South at. Burns Street, in addition to the $27,000 mentioned above for the Dundas and D'Hillier going to come apart because of language. The most im- portant thing a government has to do is to get the economy moving again." Scott Fennell, Progressive Conservative candidate for Ontaro Riding, agreed that the economy'of the country is very important. -He said, the "comparison between Switzerland and ourselves--it is a comparison of we owe them money and they own us -- thanks to Trudeau who has put us into this disastrous mess." Mr. Ashe concluded by stating - "I am very, pleased that I was successful in obtaining additional funds from MTC for the Town, and i'n turn for my constituents." on topic o A Cable TV series on Irw is being broadcast every second Wednesday dt 9:30 p.m. on Pineridge Cable TV, Cablecast 10.
