Although- Councillor Joe Drumm concurred with Councillor Attersley, he feit the matter should be dealt with by the 1980 Council. But if there was a concep- tuai plan it should be looked at in 1980 and should know at leas t what to expect. He believes "'that ail sport activities should be at Iro- quois Park. If we are going to get a bus service in this town, ail the sports activities should be in one place." "We maybe somewhat, premnature," said Councillor Bob Carson. "Perhaps:- the need for this type of struc- ture may .change in two or three years' time; for example squash has sud- denly hit the market now but it May have lost its popula- rity by the time a Fitness Centre is needed."1 Councillor Joe Bugelli pointed out that the Opera- tions Committee feit "fromn ail indications in the F'itness Centre report there was no need for this type of structure. " Recreation Director Wayne DeVeau's recent report to council stated thgt the need and feasibility study of a Fitness Centre for the Town of Whitby had been completed at a cost of $7,000. There had been $10,000 set aside for this purpose and there, is $3,000 left in the budget for the development of a conceptual plan. The Operations Committee recommended that the matter be referred to the 1980 budget for discussion. At the regular, meeting of Council it was pointed out by Councillor Bob Attersley that the Council "'did see fit to have a $10,000 allocation for the Fitness Centre study". As there is $3,000 left inthe bud get he would "like to see ing of $3,000 on a "<set of beautiful plans that will be sitting around for two or three years gathering dust and by the time we consider such a structure the need may flot be there." It was referred back to the Committee that a conceptual plan on a Fitness Centre be brought forward not to ex- ceed the 3,000 already in the Inspector David Flem- ming said that during Police Week ail Region of Durham divisional offices will be open to the public for inspec- tion during Police Week May 13 to 19.
