Swimming registration is a fiasco says reader EDITOR'S NOTE The following is a leffer from a Whitby citizen f0 Recreation Director Wayne DeVeau, com- menting on the method used by fthe recreafion departmenf in registra- fions for swimming- Copies of this letter were sent f0 Mayor Jim Gartshore and the Free Press. Dear 5fr: 1 had the unforfunafe privilege of trying f0 register my fwo children for swimming instruction at Iroquois Park on Thursday evening April 26fh 1979. -To say the affair was a grossly unor- ganized fiasco would be the understafement of the year. People regisferinig for over fwenty'different categories were paraded in 1 lne through the recreafion complex as if in somne weird slow motion tour. Couldn't someone have arranged 'this registra,- tion fo be done in a large gymnasium wifh a table and line for every dif- ferent cafegory or fwo? Surely they would have re tve he bottle-neck situation that occured here. This is wahf is done at universlty registra- fions where numbers of people and categories are just as numnerous if nof more so. I hope that this sugges- tion wlll be lmpleniented 50 that when the nexf around, people will1 not be herded around like caff le and made to stand for 45 minutes f0 an hour or more, onlyfo find ouf thaf their particular cafegory situation.- It was a very frustra- ting and unfruifful even- ing and 1 trust that thro'ugh some planning and organizing if won'f Yours very fruly, Whifby, Ont.
