Liquor board is given a month's extension to close its land deal The Region of Durham has given the Liquor Control Board of Ontario an extra month to -close the deal on the property in the Thickson Road industrial park where it intends to build a $40 million warehouse and ship- ping facility. The extension gives the LCBO until the end of May before it is required to pay for the 51.3 acres, close to the Oshawa boundary, south of Highway 401. The LCBO announced its intention to build a ware- house on thissite in March, 1977. This warehouse is intended to serve central and eastern Ontario. According to Bob Richard- son, the region's chief ad- ministrative officer, the LCBO was originally sup- posed to pay for the land at a price of $2.052 million on April 30, under the terms of an agreement negotiated with the region last year. However, the LCBO was unable to meet some condi- tions of the agreement in time for the closing 'date, said Mr. Richardson. He said there was no seri- ous 'difficulty, for the problem involved complet- ing preliminary engineering designs before approval was given to them by the conser- vation -authority. As yet no starting date for construction has been announeed. Kevin Murphy, (second right) a Graphics II student at Georgian College, Barrie, is the winner of an Ontario Crafts Council poster contest.
