The winners were lead by, Craig Fergusson with 2 sing- les and a home run. Graham McDonald also hit a four- bagger with other hits going to Scott Whittington and Dale Johnson. Pitching duties were shared by Dale Johnson and Craig Ferewon. Consumers Gas had hits from Scott Artner, Paul McGary and Darcy Head. Recreation Director Wayne DeVeau in his report to Council states there is a need within the community to develop tennis skills of the youth to insure that good tennis instructors will be available in the future. The report pointed out if a constant and good program for instruction to beginners in tennis is offered by the Town the result is continuous good use of the excellent tennis facilities being provi- ded. The first session of the Tennis Camp will operate from July 3 to July 27 and the second session will be from July 30 to August 24. The fee will be $60 per session and will permit 36 boys and girls between the ages of eight to fourteen years in each session. They will learn and deve- lop advanced skills in the game of tennis and the pro- gram will run between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily from Monday through - the week including Friday. The Recreation Depart- ment Officials state that the program will include other sports as well as a recrea- tional swim each day. August The youngsters wili play in at least two provincially- ranked tennis tournaments and they will be affiliated members of the Ontario Ten- nis Association. As to the cost of the Tennis Camp, a leadership grant was received by the town from the Ministry of Culture and Recreation and the re- maining amount will be fi- nanced through the fees set for each child for each four week session. Roller skater is champ Jim Crouch, 17, son of Whitby's fire chief Ed Crouch, has been named to the Canadian roller skating team which will take part in the world championships in West Germany in Septem- ber. Jim, who competes for the Hamilton Roundabout Club, and his partner Sharon West of Hamilton, recently won the Canadian junior dance team championship. Jim also captured the Canadian novice men's figures crown in the national competition at Montreal.
