Insp. David Fleming, of the Durham Regional Police, said that Darryl R. Hurlburt, of Oshàwa was working in the garage part of the station when he saw the masked man approach, carrying a butcher knife. Hurlburt then ran to the front door, slammed it and the man ran north across Dundas, police said. Uranowski, is looking for new membei's. Woodwind, brass, string and percussion players are wel- come to join. We especially require violin, viola, cello and bass players. This orchestra an opportu- nity' for amateur, semi-pro- fessional and professional musicians to perform toge- ther, as an avocation or to gain experience through per- formance. The repertoire ranges from classical to con- temporary and popular selections. Concerts are pre- sented throughout the Durham Region. During the 1978-79 season, the orchestra performed concerts in Oshawa, Whitby, Uxbridge and Port.Perry. Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m., at the Kinsmen Hall, located on the corner of McMillan- Dr. and William St. in Oshawa. The first rehearsal of the new season will be held on Sunday, Sep- tember 9, 1979. Anyone interested in per- forming in the orchestra is asked to attend the first rehearsal in September. Durham Regional Police report that sometime around August 20 or 21, someone walked into the MacDonalds store on Thickson Road South and stole two plaques, sized three feet by four feet, each containing plastic images of the two popular MacDonalds' commercial characters. The plaques are valued at $400 although the theft was not reported until August 22, police said. Smoking He was sitting on a log, quietly smoking. Vandalism Vandalism has caused $00 damage to Whitby Senior Public School folloWing a break-in-about 10 days ago. Durham Regional Police reported that the vandals spilled several gallons of paint on floors and walls after gaining entrance to the building by breaking a window.
