Lung Assoejation still shooting for g oal Although Christmas is over, the Durham Region Lung Association is stili trying to reach its $85,000 Christmas Seat Campaign objective.- With just two weeks to go before the January 31 close-off, total receipts stand at $81,000. Local campaign organizers estimate that ap- proximately 42,500 people who supported the 1979 campaign have flot yet "an- swered their Christmas seal letter", and so are making a final appeal to those usual contributors to send in their donation. Executive Director Angel Tibbles says that few people seem to realize the urgent .1 need to keep working again- st lung disease - "the fastest growing health threat to Canadians of all ages". The lung association relies entirely on public support of the Christmas Seal Cam- paign to keep its research projects and local com- munity programs in operation. In Durham Region it of- fers programs for asthmatic children (including summer camp at Camp Samac), and for older adults with em- F physema or other chronic chest condition. The association provides Cold Weather Protection ¶Masks, a visiting junior school programn on smoking and health, and public lung function testing to detect early respiratory disease. It also offers assistance to smokers trying to quit. Donations should be marked "Christmas, Seals" and sent to the Bank of Nova Scotia, 11, Simcoe St., North, Oshawa.
