Four of us dined at Fazio's at the corner of Simcoe and Athol Streets in Oshawa. This dining spot specializes in Italian cuisine and those readers who enjoy fine Italian dishes will not be disappointed with what they Dinding Guide COACH HOUSE, STEAK HOUSE & TAVERN, 939 Dundas St. W., Whitby, 668- 2751. This restaurant opened just three days before Christmas and is owned jointly by Tino Fazio and his nephew, Nick Fazio. Previously, they had operated a pizza parlour and will be especially remem- bered by many Oshawa residents. Tino Fazios met us at the door, took us to a table and turned out to be a very generous and gracious host. Maybe we should mention here that we have always been given the red carpet treatment by the owners and managers of local restaurants, with the excep- tion of one restaurant where the owner didn't have the courtesy or manners to even say good-evening to us. Nick served us a special appetizer prepared by him- self, which consisted of Tor- telline and Lasagna. It was delicious and all plates were quickly emptied. For the main course, Joy and Linda had veal cutlets, Dan had a heaping dish of Lasagna and I settled for Veal Scalpoppine. These dishes were also served with hot garlic bread. Tino says that his main ob- jective is to give Oshawa and district the best Italian restaurant for luncheons and dinners, as well as en- tertainment. On Wednesday and Thur- sday evenings, Fazio's presents Lindsay Smith, an Oshawa boy, who wanders from table to table singing and playing his guitar. Friday and Saturdays The Impressions, a 3-piece band, offers music for your listening and dancing pleasure. This group will be on the bandstand for three weeks, followed by another group known as The Caprice. This latter trio will be entertaining at Fazio's for a two-month engagement. Tino has been in Canada for 14 years and likes it very much. He and his nephew have already purchased another piece of property in south Oshawa with the idea of opening a second restaurant. Tino was a but- cher with the Co-op in south Oshawa and many customers will remember him. The new restaurant, when opened, will be located at the site of the fire hall on Simcoe just below Bloor in the Station Plaza. Fazio's is a restaurant with a clean, bright decor. The decor is plain but nice. The *money you spend goes into the quality of the food rather than into fancy trap- pings you can't eat anyway. Fazio's is fully licensed and offers all the popular Italian entrees. Tino takes personal pride in the quality of the food and hopes to please everyone who walks through the door. This was my first visit to a truly Italian restaurant, but Dan who is something of an Italian gourmet, vouches for the fact the food was of the very best quality. Tino and Nick will make you welcome when you visit their restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the ser- vice is good. While you can have a choice of drinks, Tino has obviously earned an education on the quality of wines and is hoping later this year to be able to offer a house wine with the Fazio label on it.
