\VIIIi'N FFBl>US W.)[S)YAIPRlIL 8.1981,PiACLE 17 Coming Eventsi FREEDOM FROM SMIOKING Durham Region Lung Association and the Oshawa Y.W.C.A. will co-sponsor "Freedom from Smoking", a six session course aimed at helping smokers kick the nicotine habit and improve their physical fitness. The course will be held at the Y.W.C.A. Program building, (Simcoe Street S., Oshawa) for six consecutive Tuesday sessions from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., commencing April 21. Babysitting facilities are available. During the program participants will be taught how to identify situations that "trigger" smoking behaviour, how to understand their own smoking patterns and how to apply this knowledge to the difficulties of smoking cessation. The second portion of each 90 minute session will be a physical fitness program with instructor Donna Davidson. A $35 registration fee is payable, of which $20 will be refunded by the Lung Association, following at- tendance at five of the six sessions (this must include the first and last class). Proceeds of the event will go towards purchasing new audio-visual equipment for the school. 50'S DANCE The Brooklin and District Kinsmen Club will hold a "50's Dance" at the Brooklin Memorial Arena on Satur- day, April 25 between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. The "Class of '56" will provide the music for con- tinuous dancing. ART It's time again for the an- nual display of General Motors employees' artistic talents. The seventh annual GM Employee Art Exhibit will be held at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, on April 23 and 24 from 10 to 9 p.m., April 25 from 12 to 9 p.m. and April 26 from 12to5p.m. Besides this multi-media exhibit of over 200 entries by GM employees and retirees, there will be in-process displays of painting, wood carving, soft sculpture and others, as well as oppor- tunities to chat with the various artists who will be present during the exhibit. Grant Warner, GM of Canada vice-president and general manufacturing manager, will officially open the show on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome to attend. ART AUCTION Plans are now under way by Piyah Chapter of Hadassah-Wizo (Oshawa) for its fifth major art auc- tion. Many well known regional artists who contributed previously are expected to participate again. Some of the media which will be displayed are water colors, oul paintings, photography, weaving, sculpture, pottery, silk screen and batik. The art auction is to be held on Sunday, May 3, 1981, at the Holiday Inn, Oshawa. The preview will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the auc- tion beginning at 8 pm. FIELD NATURALISTS Durham Naturalists would like to invite anyone who is interested to join us for a walk at Camp Samac to view "Waterfowl on the Nonquon".
