WTC receives che que A cheque for $500 is handed to Eve Heaver of the Whitby Theatre Company by Dorothy Ormiston, president of Ladies Auxillary, Branch 112 Whitby, Royal Canadian Legion. The cheque represented the proceeds from a dance put on by the ladies auxillary to help the theatre company purchase new stage curtains for their Centennial Building Theatre. The present curtains, donated by DuPont, of Whitby, in 1968 have led a long and useful life, and are long past retirement age. - Photo by Bob Nelson Pension cheques may be late There are some 23,000 Old Age Security pensioners in Ontario who may find their monthly cheques con- siderably smaller in April despite an increase in the basic OAS pension. W.A. Wright, assistant director general of Health and Welfare Canada's in- corne security program, says that is how many recipients of the pension have failed to reapply for the Guaranteed Income Sup- plement. "lWe issued reapplication forms to all recipients of the supplement", Wright said. "0f the 382,814 issued, just over 360,000 have reap- plied." According to Wright, because the reapplication deadline of March 31 is now past, it is unlikely that it will be possible to process those reapplications arriving now in -time for the April payment period. Consequently, all recipients of the GIS who have not reapplied, will get only their basic OAS payrnent which will be $208.20, Wright said. Ail applications received now will be "put into pay" as quickly as possible so that pensioners will suffer a minimum of inconvenience in interruption of payments, according to Wright. Ap- proved benefits will be paid retroactively where necessary.- ver-20sVe* cle In-toc- e
