The rejection came in the form of a recommendation from council's management committee that said correspondance from the two municipalities requesting that they each receive an extra represen- tative on council be receîved and filed. However, Ajax Mayor Bill McLean and Whitby Mayor Bob Attersley indicated at Iast week's meeting of regional council that they will introduce a notice of motion at next week's meeting asking for a provin- cial review of councîl's composition. McLean told council that both Ajax and Whitby are experiencing faster growth than the other six municipalities in the region resulting in an inhalance of representation. Presently, Ajax has two members of regional council representing about 25,000 people while Whitby has three members representing 35,000 Brock Township also has two members but they only represent 9,600 people. The Town of Newcastle, whose population is similiar to that of Whitby, has four representatives on council. Regional Councillor Tom Edwards (Whitby) said that representation on council should "have to stay abreast of the changes in population." HIe pointed out that by 1986, Whitby will have 30.8 per cent of the region's population while Ajax will have 9.3 per cent. He sadi that their representation on council should refleet the growth in population and assessmeflt.
