PAGE 12, WEDNESDAY, APRI L 29, 1981,WHITBY FREE PRESS CLOCA and naturalists lead walk in the Purple Woods On May 3, 1981, the Cen- tral Lake Ontario Conser- vation Authority and the Pickering Naturalists will hold a joint outing at Purple Woods Conservation Area. This walk will be designed primarily for children, giving them an opportunity to get outdoors and ap- preciate nature. Adults are also welcome to attend. Purple Woods is a great location to see many spring wildflowers in bloom, especially trilliums. The area also has a rich birdlife. The bird feeders in the woodlot attract wood- peckers, nuthatches, chickadees and a host of other species. The spring is a time of peak activity for many birds and mammals, so we should see quite a bit. There are two meeting places for this outing. Pickering and Ajax residen- ts may wish to meet at the Pickering Municipal Building parking lot (Brock Road at Highway 2) at 9:30 a.m. Those living further east may join the outing at the Purple Woods Conser- vation Area parking lot at approximately 10:10 a.m. To reach the Conservation Area, drive north on Simcoe Street past the Town of Raglan to Concession 10, then turn right. There is a large sign marking the parking lot on the southeast corner. For further information, call the information and education co-ordinator at 579-0411.
