MAY 6, 1981,WHITBY FREE PRESS Whitby Free Press YOUR DINING PLEASURE with Barry Murkar.... w Lots of restaurants for Mother's Day Mothers are special people, and as such, they deserve special treatment. At least on one occasion each year we can show mother that we do feel she is special by treating her to her favourite dinner. This occasion has always been one of the busiest days of the year for local restaurants and already many of them are taking reservations for that special day of May 10. There are many fine eating spots in the Durham area and we would like to recommend a few of them. Both Steve's Steak House and El Stavro's in Oshawa are very good, if mother happens to like steak. On the other hand, if mom should drool over an Italian dish, we suggest Fazio's in Oshawa on Simcoe Street South. And if her taste buds are away out, she might consider Chinese dishes a treat, and there are many fine Chinese restaurants in both Whitby and Oshawa. The Great Wall and The Silver Dragon in Whitby come to mind, but a quick glance in the yellow pages will give you quite a wide choice if you happen to be in the motor city on that par- ticular day. Over in Sheridan Mall, you have the Grenada which has always enjoyed a favourable reputation as a dining spot for all occasions, Mother's Day being no exception. By the way, Grenada is taking reservations now, so phone right away if you are in- terested. In Ajax, The Ranch Steak House and the Penn Centre both serve fine food and you won't go wrong if you decide on either of them. Both these dining spots specialize in steaks and sea .food, so there should be something on the menu that would especially please dear old mom. Le Chalet, the Ali Baba, and The Coach House, all in Whitby, are good restauran- ts that serve fine food with efficient service. Since star- ting this column, we have eaten at all these spots and heartily recommend any one of them to our readers. The Filling Station in nor- th Oshawa, The Esplanade, The Magic Car and a host of others are all restaurants you could take mother to, Dinner Specials (Monday To Thursday) Red Snapper Filet ...............5.95 Served with lemon & butter sauce Baby Shrimp Newburg.. Le €Ijalet STEAK HOUSE & TAVERN 110 DUNDAS STREET WEST 668-4377 and we feel certain she would enjoy the occasion. There is another spot we should mention here, and that is the Watermill, just north of Manchester. The food is excellent with a variety of choice and at prices that will please you. We can't mention every restaurant in the area in this column, and have picked out a few that we enjoyed. There are plenty of others and you may have your own favourite. In any case, remember Mother's Day this year is May 10 and she would probably enjoy eating out for a change, rather than standing over a hot stove. Correct posture needed for physical fitness Correct posture is one of the keys to physical and mental accomplighment, Dr. Greg McConnell of the Durham Region Chiroprac- tic Society said today in a statement calling attention to May 1-7 as Posture Week. A series of'events and public education campaigns, sponsored by the society in co-operation with the On- tario Chiropractic Association, will take place during the week to em- phasize the importance of posture to health. Said McConnell, "The ob- jective of Posture Week is to direct the attention of the public to the role of posture and spinal integrity in the maintenance of health, and create an awareness of posture as something that does more than just make you look better." The doctor of chiroprac- tic pointed out that in ad- dition to the appearance ad- vantages of the body being erect, good posture helps the individual do his job better, gives him more energy, creates greater physical ef- ficiency and aids in main- taining good health. "Posture habits are developed at an early age. As a result, there are many children who have diminished chest cavities and breathe improperly. We have to bring public atten- tion to the need for spinal examination, so these cases can be found and corrected before they progress to more serious stages", said Mc- Conneil.
