CALL COLL ECT without loos ing ou"denti0ty By THE WORSHIPFUL ROBERT A. ATTERSLEY Mayor of the Town of Whitby Recognition of our family industries and the outstanding contribution they offer ta aur community is definitely the priarity at aur industrial seminar ta be held in June 1981. Whitby is one of the most progressive communities in On- tario and this is due ta the dedication of aur involved residen- ts and the "quality emphasis" demonstrated by Whitby In- dustries. The above success has stimulated a magnetic price in aur tawn and a positive attitude has naw become a WY of if e. In the past year in Whitby, we have achieved growth beyond other communities. Seventy-three per cent of aur in- dustries have expanded ta add well over 1,200 emplayees. The heartbeat of aur giant industries continue ta dwell an concern for the people they employ. To each, the industry is more than smoke stacks and mortar - it is the people within providing the high standard of performance ini productivity. I extend my personal gratitude and congratulations ta aur industries for their integrity in retaining the ultimate of pride in their products and ta the community in which they live. New industrial growth is actively in progress and I would like to ensure the citizens of Whitby, each will receive prafessional evaluation. Jobs for aur people is an important aspect in planning but more important is the need ta ensure we accept stabilized - high standard industries. Whitby has established quality living and we will cantinue ta encaurage this concept in aur designs for the future. Retaining a cultural and historical reflectian as modern development bîends throughout the tawn, wilI mald a charac- teristic our forefathers would applaud. Our residential development has designed homes to offeri sophisticated living for the average family. Where else in Ontario, do you find five developers working tagether with the municipality ta pr<)vîde homes of regal Victorian: southern Georgian and early colonial. offering classic in- dividuality in styling. Whitby - a place ta work, live and play also holds the golden key ta the tourism industry. Tourists visiting our area in 1980 totalled over 500,000. Whitby is ver » vproud ta be the home of Cullen Gardens; Family Kartways a unique port marina: Trafalgar Castle; many historical i~tes and a museum, as weil as the ultimate in recreation Yes ....
