We, as a tawn council, recognize this fact and support the ef - forts of those who want ta became involved in their com- munity. I, personally, have always been a proponent of community irivlvement but have neyer been more aware of the variaus forms of involvement as I have in the past couple of months. Duîing Mayor Attersley's recent illness I had the oppor- tunity ta of ficiate at the openîng of the District Lions conven- tion. I realized that we had organizations not only irivolved in aur owri community but eager to host their counterparts from other communities and share the facilities available in our town. I alse had the opportunity ta attend the annual banquet of the Whitby C.B.C. Builders Junior "A" Lacrosse Club and was reîninded that a group of young men represented our town with pride arid distinction and made Whitby the home of the "Minto Cup" enblemnatic of the Canadian Junior A Lacrosse Champianship. Last Wednesday 1 represerited Mayor Attersley at a press conference at Thunderbird Golf and Country Club in Ashburn ta annourice to members of the media and the mayors of Durham Regian the beginnirig of AI Baldings Golf Week for Timmy. Local golf courses are cooperating with members of Durham Regional Police ta raise money for Crippled Children. This event is certairily ini keeping with the variaus events recognizing the International Year of the Disabled. The Mayors Task Force for the Disabled of course was also formed on behaîf of the disabled persans and is currently very active. My involvement as the mayar's representative to the Whitby Arts executive has made me aware of the fact that there are many people coricerned about cultural activities and are willing to work ta ensure they are part of aur lives. The cooperation of cammunity organizations with couricil, tawri staff and each other of course is extremely important and I think this is very evident iri everits such as the Brooklin Sprîng Fair which wiIl be held on June 4, 5, 6 and 7. The County Town Carnival at the end of July anid the Civic Holiday weekend in August and The Brooklin and District Kinsmen Participark Opening on June 13 wheri several local organizations are caoperating with the Kinsmen ta provide a great day of entertainment for the area residents. This cooperatiori was also very evident this past weekend wheri members of the Kinsmen Club and members of twa other local baîl teams combined to give the bahl diamond at the Brooklin Park a new facelift. This impravemerit along 1 oia à - nt to gro wth with the new lighting neing provided by the town will make it a first class facility for the enjoyment of the residents. These are some examples of the participation in aur com- munity; there are certainly many others but I assure you that we appreciate it and encourage it and are willing to assist in any area we cari. <B ROOKLIN NURSERIES Hwy. 7 11/4 Miles West of Hwy. 12 Good sele, Fieldgrown jPines; Colot jBlack Spruc I Grown Rosezc Good Selecti Customers treg Maintainanc and grass ou- Nl 65 ction of our own Strees, Evergreens, iderosa, and Austrian ,rado Blue, White and -e and Hardy Ontario ion of Perrenials. may select their own «S in the field ce work, Iandscaplng tting also available. i5*3671 Barg anis.. 1974 PLYMOUTH WAGON 318, V8, power steering, power brakes, automatic, denendabIe car.
