WHITBY Marjorie Burgess Local woman inducted into Mensa Society Marjorie A. Burgess, an advertising sales represen- tative for the Whitby Free Press has been inducted to the Mensa Society Canada. Burgess, 30, received a rating that was greater than that achieved by 95 per cent of the population in the Otis Lennon Mental Ability Test and the society has ranked her in the 99th percentile, greater than 99 per cent of the population. Mensa is an international society whose members have I.Q.'s (intelligence quotients) in the top two per cent of the general Whitby Ambulance Service calls During the week that en- ded at midnight last Thur- sday, the Whitby Ambulance service responded to 103 calls for service. According to co-owner Bill Cocker, the service respon ded to 27 routine calls and ii 44 standby calls for other ambulance services in Ajax and Oshawa. The service also respon- ded to 24 urgent calls and to eight emergency calls in- cluding two motor vehicle accidents. The number to call for ambulance service is 723- 5232. population. The aim of the society is "to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of mankind.... to provide opportunities for social and intellectual in- teraction among its mem- bers.... to conduct research in psychology and sociology." Burgess, the wife of Whit- by Free Press publisher Michael Burgess, first thought of applying to join the society when she read about it in a magazine. To become a member of the society, the applicant has to sit two tests, one at home and another super- vised test. Entries will be received at the library from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and the show will be open to the public for viewing from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Region willnot install red light Durham Region will not proceed with a coroner's jury recommendation to in- stall a flashing red light at the corner of Henry and Vic- toria Streets. The coroner's jury made the recommendation in March after an inquest was held into the death of Whitby resident Gerald Victor Mc- Dougall. McDougall, 46, the jury decided, died on October 13, 1980 as the result of a motor vehicle accident at the inter- section. In his report to council, regional public works com- missioner Bill Twelvetrees said that the coroner's report showed that Mc- Dougall was impaired at the time of the accident. "The collision history for this intersection for the previous three years shows that there has been only one additional right angle collision, which also in- volved an impaired driver," Twelvetrees said in his report. "Sight lines in all direc- tions are unrestricted and the signing at the intersec- tion is proper and adequate."
