WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 1981, PAGE 19 Whitby Free Press SPORTS WEEK Iune Builders fall at the hands of the James The Peterborough James extended their winning streak to five defeating the C.B.C. Builders last week, handing the defending Minto Cup champions their first loss in five games, 14-11. "You could clearly see that Peterborough was up for us, but we weren't up for them," said Builders coach Jim Hinkson. "What's happening right now is that we're not getting the production from our returnees." The Builders came out of a tight checking first period with a two goal lead. The 2-0 advantage did not last through the second period however and James managed eight goals while holding the Builders to a pair, making the score entering the final stanza 8-4. The ninth goal by Peterborough sparked a four goal scoring spree from the home town team. Another goal by James put Peterborough up two goals and the Builders never managed to narrow the gap. Nearing the end of the second period Hinkson or- dered Builders general manager, Mark Brown, away from the bench apparently for making remarks to the game officials. Brown, however, returned to the bench for the third period. John Fusco was the top scorer for Whitby, not- ching three markers. Randy Gallas managed two goals and singles came from Mike Sear, Charlie Meitner, Gary Crawford, Dan Mark, Rick Nieuwendyk and Jeff Cole. The Builders next home game is tonight when they play host to the Elora Mohawks. Results of Monday night's contest with the Kitchener Braves were not available at press time. Cops top CHOO bunch The CHOO Radio baseball team didn't quite live up to their promise to get back at the Durham Regional Police force this past weekend at the CHOO Chili Cook off held at Iroquois Park. As a matter of fact, Durham's finest took CHOO to task handing them a 20-6 defeat. "You could say they beat us by a fair margin," said Joe Pascucci, CHOO Radio's sports director. Pascucci, who was responsible for the radio station's best hit of the day, marking up a triple, said that despite the score "some really good baseball" was played by both teams. About fifty people gathered around the number two diamond to watch the swing out. With their back against the wall Oshawa-Whitby pulled the game out of the hat, scoring three runs in the bottom of the tenth to give them a 5-4 final score. Fleetwood was the winning pitcher.
