That figure did not include people competing in the fair nor did it include childr-..- under 12 years of age who were admitted free. One of the biggest draws on Sunday, the final day of the four-day event, was the return of pari-mutuel betting at the harness horse racing track. In the first game of the tournament, played Saturday, Knemore, New York defeated the Up two The Mlinto Cup cham- pion C.B.C. Builders contlnued their wlnning streak hast week defeating a much out- chassed Elora Mohawk squad 25-9. The Mohawks came out of a very tight first period up 3-1 but a 15 goal effort by the Builders in the second period put the game away for Whitby. The Builders were slow getting started in the flrst period but got their act together for the final two stanzas, out- scoring their opponents 246. John Fuscor lead the home town boys with a five goal effort. Mike Sear and Todd Tran scored three apiece. Two goal efforts were turned i by Kevin Van 0 0 0 Sîckle, Eric Perroni, Andy Perroni and Jeff Cole while Charhie Meitner, Jamie Roach, Gary Crawford, Gihi Nieuwendyk, Ed Derks and Rick Nieuwendyk managed singles. The 25-9 trouncing the Builders gave Elora seemed a mirror image of the 2»- defeat they handed the Kitchener Braves earlier in the week. The game was marred with fights, Kit- chener picking up 101 penalty minutes and Whitby accumulatiflg 69. Kevin Van Sickle lead the Builders with a five goal effort. Ed Derks scored four goals while Gil Nïeuwendyk, Andy Perron-i, John Fusco, Todd Tran -and Dan Mark picked up three goals apiece. Bill Eyre and Jamie Roach added singles. The next Builders home game is tonight at Iroquois Park when they play host to the Oshawa Legion Green Gaels. Oshawa-Whitby ladies 2-1 dropping themn into the "B"' Series. A tied second game with Georgetown was awarded to Oshawa- Whitby because they had more runners to third base during the game. The score was 4- 4. Georgetown jumped off to a four run lead in the bottom of the first inning and it wasn't un- tii the top of the f ifth that Qshawa-Whitby could tie the score. Bonnie Jankowski and Sandy Normoyle hit doubles, scoring two runs each. Normoyle, Sandy Lowe and Joyce McFarland added singles for the ladies. Playing against Strathroy the ladies scored 8 runs on four bits and one error, whihe holding their opposition to no runs, and two hits. Oshawa-Whitby took a 1-o iead in the top of the first adding two runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to round out the scoring. McFarland, Jankow- ski, Ginnette Lambert, Lowe and Normoyle hit singles. in the final game of the tournament Oshawa-Whitby defeat- ed Springfield 13-0. The ladies opened the scoring in the top of the first driving in two runs. A solo home run by Lowe in the second, four runs in the third and eight runs in the fifth gave Oshawa-Whitby the win. Normoyie led the hit- ting, going four for four on the day with singles. Lowe and Jankowski went three for three hit- ting a home run, a triple and a single and three Lacrosse matches The Whitby-Garrard Road Minor Lacrosse Association will be hosting a tournament for Ban- tam and Midget lacrosse teams on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14. Games will be played at both Iroquois Park Arena and the Brooklin Memorial Arena. Play will start at both arenas at 8 a.m. -and con- tinue ail day until 6 p.m. The 50 cent admission fee for students, $1.25 for aduits or $2.50 for the family will allow the bearer access to any numnber of games at either arena for the day. Tana Lavis was the top hitter in the Cedar Hill game managing a triple and two singles. Winning pitcher Wiggans hit two singles and struck out two op- position to lead her team to victory. Jankowski hit two doubles against Charemont whihe Nomoyle and Mc- Farland hit one double each. Fleetwood hit a triple and Lavis banged a home run. Fleetwood was the winning pitcher with five strike outs. The ladies next league game is tomight againat Don Victoria at North Oshawa Park. six game losing strealk The Brooklin Redmen snapped a six game losing streak last week before their home crowd, defeating the defending Mann Cup champion Brampton Excelsiors 14-12. Top Redmen marksman for the nlght was Larry Graham who lead Brooklin with four goals. Tom Wreggitt, Tim Briscoe and Bill Down each scored two. Steve Kashul, Bryce Jordan, Brian Colm and Ken Colley picked Up singles. The Redmen were neyer behind in the game Jeading 2-1 at the end of the first period and 9-6 entering the final stanza. Their hosing streak was almost snapped in Peterborough last Tuesday might, scoring three goals in the first period against the James and four in the second. The Redmen's 7-1 final period iead was laid to waste by six unanswered James' goals, forcing the duel into an overtizue period. .Peterborough slipped two past Redmen net- minder Wayne Colley to emerge with the 9-7- vie- tory. Down managed three goals and two assista for Brooklin. .Wreggitt scored a goal and three assista with other Red- men markers coming from Steve Kashul, Bryce Jordan and Steve Wilde. Brooklin's next home game is this Saturday when they meet the Owen Sound North Stars at the Brookhin Memorial Arena. Wrestling returns to Oshawa's Civic 1 The Oshawa Civic Auditorium will once again become a home for Maple Leaf Wrestling on Tuesday, June 16 when promoter Pat Miiosh will present five prof essionai wrestling bouts. The four top wrestlers in North America have been signed to do battie in the tag team main bout. Canadian Champion Angelo "King Kong" Mosca and Ric "Nature Boy" Flair wili fight Ivan "The Russian Bear" Koloff and Ray "The Crippier" Stevens. Former Canadian champion Dewey Robertson is scheduled to go up against Mr. Fuji, Bob Marcus will clash with Tony "Cannonball" Parisi, Bruno Sammartino Jr. wili take on El Toro and Biily "Red" Lyons will meet Nick DeCarlo.
