P'AGI 6, WlII)NI;ÏSI)ýY. J UN 1 24, S l II3 RF RSS Peter Perr y nominations now open This year's Peter Perry Award presen- tation could be the most sensational and suspen- seful ever. Organizers of the event, designed t.o honor Whitby's outstanding citizen, plan to allow greater public par- ticipation in choosing the wlnner and hope to keep those interested on the edges of t.heir seats . The Whitby Chamber of Commerce is now ac- cepting nominations for the award which wlll h presented Thursday, July 23, during the ever- popular County Town Carnival. The ceremony will take place in the banquet room upstairs at the Earl of Durham on Brock Street South. That's a change o! venue from previous years when the function was held at Heyden- shore Pavilion. The other change in the ceremony is in the award presentation it- self. In the past, a committee of judges decided the winner from the nominations submit- ted and kept the recipient's name secret until the presentation. But, this year, the committee will reveal the names of three fmnalists in advance of the event and the winner will be announced on the nmght of July 23. It's felt this will in- crease people's interest in the award, an interest which had been waning in the recent past. Whitby residents can nominate one or more townsfolk or taxpayers as candidates by outllning in writing the deeds they have per- formed for the greatest good of the greatest number of local people over and above the normal duties of office, eniployment or business. No candidate will be disqualified by reason of hits or her of- fice, employmeflt, business or association with the Chamber of Commerce. The award can be made posthumously. Mere numbers of nominations for can- didates won't influence J' Pop People Pop BIROWN'S FOODMASTER CASE 0F 12-30 oz BOTTLES $4.99 & dep. CASE 0F 24-10 oz. BOTTLES $4.49 & dep.
