Unfortunately, there are more losers than winners. The Whitby teain was eliminated froin "B" division in two games. Both* games were close with Whitby lead- ing at the halfway mark. They lost to St. Catherines 5 to 3. Derek Jones scored 2 and Blair Oliphant got 1. Kitchener won the second game 4 to 2. Mark Ainsworth and Derek Jones scored for Wbitby. This novice team, sjonsored by the Kins- men Club, finisbed tbe OMLA Zone 6 as league champions. Tbey are currently in the Zone 6 playoffs wbich is a best- of-three series against the Peterborough novices. The first game was played last Tuesday in Brooklin Memorial Arena. Peterborough won 7 to 4. Derek Jones got a hat trick and Chris Tucker scored once. Wbitby continues in Brooklin. The deciding third gaine, if needed, will be in Brookiin on the following evening. Tbe OMLA Zone 6 Bantain lacrosse play- offs were held at Iroquois Park Arena on August 30. The WGRMLA Ban- tams, sponsored by Hooker Chev Olds, met the Beaches in a bigh scoring game. For most of the game, Beacbes seemed to score twice for every goal that Whitby got. Then in a sudden rever- sai with only 4 minutes to play, -Whitby erupted for six goals to win 15-14. Cbris Ainsworth scored tbe winner with 13 seconds left to play. Gary Mark scored 5, 3 by Ainsworth, doubles by Bill Kellestine and Greg Lepine, and singles by Bryon Oliphant, Dave McWbit- ter and Tyson Metcalf . ln tbe A final, Witby met Peterborough, West Rouge won the first annuai Whitby Oidtimers Soccer Tournament that was held over the weeki The tournament, sponsored by W. The early pressure produced results in the form of a penalty kick after only two minutes, however the shot was directed straight to the keeper and the garne remained scoreîess. Perbaps because of the 8 a.m. start of the first game, the play was sluggish until Whitby trailed Beaches 4-5 mid- way tbrough the second period. Beaches were flot per- mitted any more goals by Whitby wbo scored 9 times. The final score was Whitby 13, Beaches 5. Steve Dyment and Greg VanSickle got 3 each, Dean Vanderinde scored 2 and singles by Ricky Buldoc, Emery Campbell, Tom Frank, Dave Clarke and Wayne Cornish. Honourabie mention goes to Ricb Dyment for assisting on 6 goals. In the second game at 3 p.m., the Wbitby teain, sponsored by Andrew Antenna, let up for the hast minute of play witb a three goal lead over Scarborougb but did manage to hand on to a 8-7 win. Steve Dyment scored 3, Dean Vanderlinde twice and once each by Greg VanSickle, Simon Lewis and Rlch Dyment. In the Peewee A finals, Whitby met the Peterborough A teain. The play waýs similar, and tbe outcome was identical to the gaine last Tbursday as Whitby romped toan 11lto 4 wn. Greg VanSickle showed the way with 5 goals but be bad six other beipers named Wayne Cornisb, Tom Frank, Mike Williams, Dean Vanderinde, Rkçh Dyment and Steve Dyment. In the Peewee B division, Ajaiç won the best of three games against tbe Peter- borougb B teain, two gaines to none. PeeWee lacrosse teains froin ail over On- tario will be meeting in Mississauga for the Labour Day weekend for tbe Provincial Cbampionships. The Whitby players have been warned not to be over confident since very few teains bave won both the Canadian and the Ontario Champ- ionships in the saine year.
