The increases were given at the request of two of Whitby's taxicab companies - Bell and Bowman and Circle Taxi Ltd. The increases will mean riders wiIl now pay $1.20 for the first one-seventh of a kilmetre and 10 cents for each additional one-seventh of a kilomnetre or part thereof.
