Fenneil, who has sat as a Progressive Con- servative backbencher since he was first elected to the House of Commons two years ago, was appointed the critic for the federal public works department and its minister, Paul Cosgrove. e7 However, Fenneli will flot be responsible- for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp)- oration even though Cosgrove is the minister responsible for it. His appointment was part of a shadow cabinet shuffle conducted by Clark last week, that many observers see as an attempt by the former prime minuster to hold on to the leadership of the party. Despite these overtones, Fenneil expresseci delight with his appointment. "Because of the Pickering airport mess, I've had to learn to deal with government stupidity," Fennfelsaid. "Yourmight say that I'm an expert on white elephants and the public works department is full of them. This could be a fun job. The increases were given at the request of two of Whitby's taxicab companies - Bell and Bowman and Circle Taxi Ltd. The increases will mean riders wiIl now pay $1.20 for the first one-seventh of a kilmetre and 10 cents for each additional one-seventh of a kilomnetre or part thereof.
