"There was great support for the three year term at AMO," Bugelli said. "It is difficuit to answer that question. " However, the long- time municipal politi- cian pointed out that it is "icostly to run an eiec- tion." According to town treasurer AI Claring- bold, it will cost between $35,000 and $40,000 to run the next municipal election that will be held in November, 1982. East Ward Councillor Joe Drumm said that a three year term of office could exciude some people for running for council because they can't give that long a commitment. "il feel it's too long," Drumm said. "'I'd rather see a two year TO SEE OR NOT TO SEE??? Two weeks ago I wrote about the delivery room at> the Port Perry Hospital not having a delivery mirror. Well I must apologize because it has been brought to my attention that they do have a mirror, it's just that no one lbas put iL Up. If ail the expectant parents going to the Port Perry Hospital spoke out maybe they would put Up the mirror. Here's hoping. North Ward Coun- cillor Ross Batten, the newest member of COUfl- cil, said that there are some advantages to having a longer term. He said that for new councillors, it takes six months to learn the basics of the job. "It would be more productive if there was a three year term, " Bat- ten said. In supporting bis motion, Edwards said that he was not aware that council had pre- viously supported the three-year term. 11It would make no dif- adding that he was making the motion as a member of the elector- ate, flot as a municipal politician. "A a member of t.he electorate, I want a chance to see how the people I've elected are doing the job," Edwards said. Edwards' motion was defeated in a 5 to 2 recorded vote.
