Born in Toronto in 1915, Irwin resides at Balquhidder, 238 Wellington Street, Whitby. He is married, with one step-daughter and one adopted son, both aduit and employed away from home. The appointment is for a period of three years. Honorary lieute- nant-colonels are en- titled to bear this rank for 111e. Lt.-Col. Norman Wilton, the immediate past honorary lieute- nant-colonel, will remain active with The Ontario Regiment Ferret Club. The Ferret Club has restored and now parades with fine armoured scout vehicles. In 1932, Irwin enlisted in the Permanent Active Militia with The Ontario Regiment as a second lieutenant. In 1938, he was seconded to the Governor General's Foot Guards as a lieu- tenant. With the outbreak of war in 1939, Irwin retur- ned to The Ontario Regi- ment on active service. The followlng year he was posted overseas on attachment to British Imperial Forces as a captain. In March 1941 he returned to Canada, was promoted to major as squadron commander, B Squadron, and went overseas with the unit in June, 1941. During 1942 he was posted to 2nd Canadian Armoured Corps Rein- forcement Unit as second-in-command. When the Ontario Regi- ment's C Squadron was moved from England to the central Mediterr- anean area for action in Sicily in 1943, Irwin tra- velled with them as squadron commander. He lost his left arm in Sicily when a scout car overturned on a mined road. Then he was postefi to Canadian Mili- tary Headquarters in England as a general staff officer. In 1945, he returned to Canada and was demobilized. Irwin received his education from Trinity College School, Port Hope; Jarvis Cllegiate Institute, Toronto; Whitby High School,; and Victoria Colege, Jersey islands. Prior to the war as well as after (1934-39 and 1945-53), he served in various branches of The Dominion Bank. He worked in the inspection and credit departments .<Lýt head office and retired in 1953 as a manager of the Brant- ford branch. For a period of 12 years, until 1965, he was a farmer, owning and operating 100 acres. But at the same time, fromn 1956 to 1965, he served as clerk, treasurer and assessor for the Town- ship of Oakland. Then in 1965 he took up yet another challenge, as business administrator and secretary-treasurer for the Waterford District High Sehool Board. From 1969tol197Ohe was chief accountant for Norfolk County Board of Education. Irwin is a member of the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, the Bowmanville Golf Club, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Whitby Arts Incor- porated, Whitby Rotary Club, Royal Canadian MilitaryInstitute, and the African Medical Re- search Foundation.
