Foster was one of some 80 local senior citizens who were honored by the town's parks and recreation department at a reception held at the Senior Citizens' Activity Centre. The town honored the senior citizens for their contributions flot only to the centre but to the community as a whole. Fe rs tf ht Drumni said last week that town-owned lands should be swap- ped for the Brooklin Spring Fairgrouflds which is owned by First City Developmeflt Com- pany Limited. First City plans to construct somne 2,000 homes in the hamiet over a ten-year period bringing the village's population up to 10,500 from, the current 1,600. Drumni believes that the fairgrounds could be developed into a park that would become "a focal point" for the en- tire town. "We can build ail the Otter Creeks and Pringle Creeks we want," Drumni told council last week. "Iro- quois Park and the library a.e the two focal points in town. " It is Drummn's inten'- tion to have the town ex- change some 32 acres of unopened road allowan- ces in the proposed Vipond Road subdivi- sion for the fairgrouflds. He added that the developer could make up the difference in the values of the two pieces of land .by providing "'capital funds" that would be used for the fairgrounds' manage- nment.- Whitby Town Council has agreed "in prin- ciple" to a swap of the unopened road allow- ances for other road allowances to be dedicated "if and when Brooklin proceeds. " The details of the swap will be negotiated during talks on the sub- division agreement that has to be signed by the town and First City.
