According to a spokes- mian for the branch a search is being con- ducted for the contact animal and that the quarantined creatures wil remain confined for either three or six mon- ths depending on whether or flot they have had rabies vac- cinations. However. the spokes- man was careful to point out t.hat rabies is a fairiy common probiem in rural areas because the main carriers of the disease - skunks and foxes - cannot be con- trolled. The store wIndows have been tastefully decorated for the holiday season; the street decorations are in place, and the famous Golden Christmas Tree is, once again, the focal point of the downtown core. The tree has been 'spruced Up' with llghts this year, an addition that adds to the colour in the evenings. A great deal has been printed about what ls wrong with downtown Whitby. The efforts of the downtown businesses in creatlng a pleasant, lovely-to-Iook-at at- mosphere should be applauded as a posi- tive note. ln the present harsh economic climate we need somne relief from 'doom and gloom'. Downtown Whitby seems to be taking a positive approach. This is ref resh- lng. Are the businesses following the Iead of our 'positive attitude' Mayor?
