E., WHITBY 668-6828 Joe Drumm Drumm'. seekin fourth t erm, Joe Drumm bas announced that he intends, to seek a fourth term as the East Ward repre- sentative on Whitby Town Council. He made the annou ncement last week after admitting that he had given some serious tbought to running, for the may or's chair this November 8. "1 gave it a lot of thought," Drumm said adding, IIbave every intention of, one day, running for mayor." The decision to remain a ward councillor, was made after lengtby discussions witb bis family, be said. Drumm has built a reputation of being something of a maverick during bis firat tbree- terms of 1council and bas'often been the lone voice in opposition to many matters that, corne before council. I, don't particularly mind being a maverick at times, " be said adding that it is, sometimes "lonely" to be the only councillor on one side of an issue. Drumm said tbat the largest single com- plaint he gets is about people who speed on Whitby streets. "The. largest single complaint I get is speeding on the street," he said adding that be plans to press for more frequent policing of tbis problem. Drumnm, who is currently chairman 'of council's administrative comniîttee,,would, like to see the development of Port Wbitby and a review on the town's policy on letters of credit. "1I'd like to see Port Whitby go," .he said. "ItR's the key to the development of the town." He adds that once developed, Port Whitby will be a boost tbe downtown business com- munity. Letters of credit "are the one thing that council is going to bave to seriously look at,"1 he said adding, "we've had a lot of trouble with builders this year." Drumm also said he will continue to lobby for the installation of sewers 'on Elizabeth Crescent althougb he is hopeful that planned construction in the area will bring themn on Stream. " We've already okayed the subdivision, but then the economy took a nose dive," he said adding that recovery will allow for the sewer construction. The incumbent councillor also said that Wbitby bas done a good job this coundil terni in attracting more industry. "They've been doing a- good job on in- dustrial promotion," he said. "We baven't done too badly this year." Drumm joins Mayor Bob Attersley and regional councillors Gerry Emm and Tom Edwards, al of whiom bave announced that they intend to seek re-election to their current positions. "I'm going to work bard, tbat's for sure,"1 Drumm concluded.
