What's more, the, roast beef was served exactly as you asked for it. This, reporter asked . for m ed ium-rare anct was, serýved a nice, thick and tender Portion that was, a joy to eat. for bar orders and the other for food orders.) Wel,, as tbey say in the theatre "the Iplay's the ýthlng" a. n d again th!i's reviewe-rwas plea- santly surprised. Solway andý FitzGer- ald's firat, offering was Bernard Slade's "Roômantic Comedy" and 'their cast gave'a tho0roughly entertaining conceited playwnlte who meets bis new -wnlting partner on his weddlng day. FitzGerald brlngs the role of Phoebe,:,Crad-ý dock, bis'schoolmarm- ish New England writ- ing partner to life and., from the flrst time she speaks in the first act. she. has her audience's"oi complete support and funny and gave the show somethlng extra.5 Roundlng out the- cast was. Laura Press, as Carmichael's' wife, Ralph Small, as Crad-, dock's hsad andý 'Marlen Foran as Kate Mallory, the, actress whose brief, afternoon fling .with Carmichael destroys bothi his mar- nrage and his partner-, ship. Both Press'and Small gave solid performanc- es and did not try ,,to overshadow either the play or th*le stars.' 1Foran Iis, -aWhitbyý girl, aý a recent graduate. of^ the University of Windsor's. drama pro- gram. Unfortunately, it is ýdifficuit to asseslher talent as she is only on stage for about, three minutes during the mid- dle of the Second act. Thîls is not to say she did a, bad job (for she certainly didn't) but that her role was not large enough to make a real impression. Ahl-m-ahl, "Romanïtic Comedy" is woth seeing. The1 Marigold Dinner Playhouse is worth a visit f or not only la the theatre good, but <so is the food. >Perhaps this is the most important im- provement over its pro- decessor, the Stardust -Dinner Thjeatre. At the Stardust, the. poor food often, turned the patron off> the play which was usuaily of excellent quallty. When they first an- nounced their Inten- tions, Solway and Fitz- Gerald prom-ised prefes'- sionalism, both on stage and on the table.' It seems as though tbey are on their way" to making that promise a realty. Opening night at the Marigold Dinner Playhouse could only be described as more than successfulé After the show Mayor Bob Attersley,(left) and Ontario Ricing MP Scott Fenneil (rigbt) congratulated Nuala FitzGerald and Larry Slway (centre left and right) on that evening's fine performance of Ber-ý nard Slade's "'Romüantie Comedy". -Free Press Staff Photo' 'ables as'Mayor BobAt- tersley, Durham f.Regional Chairman, Gary. Larry Solway and Nuala FitzGerald seern to be on a fine start for their new enterprise. What surprised. this reporter was that every- thing was good. Dinner was good. The hot and- cold hors <My bat must go off to Marigold food and'bey- erageý manager Philip -morris who ensured that botb fare and service was excellent. Shor 'tly after entering the Brock Street North -dinner thoatre, I could ' here Morris admomishing bis staff not to 1leave c us- tomers waiting, make sure they get what they' ask for quickly and effi- ciently.' The' service was warmly friendly without being overbearing 'and our< waitr esses were continually smiling. (Yés; we had two, 'one performiance. 1.Solwvay's brief visit to the sÉtage in the -buff (don't worry,. he' was only seen from the rear) had thé audience in stit- ches. -Despite his long- years as a talk show host this reporter would be in ýerror if ho didn't say for the record that Solway can act. 1He was ' convincing in the role of Jason Car- michael, a stuffy, over sensitive insecure and sympathy. De6pite the two stars »eutfuly. ýenergetic erormancees, the polish to this' production ,f "Romantic Comedy" is givon. by Sylvia Len- nick who plays'Blanche Daily, their long-suffor- ing agent.
