By S. PORTER Officially, the season is over for the Whitby Iroquois Minor Mosqui- to squad due to a 2 toi loss to Youth Soccer League played at Peel Park on Saturday, Sep- temberl11. In what can only be described as an unusual game, the Whitby club in the first 20 minutes of the game played out- standing soccer and it appeared as if the visi- tors would be no match for the' home side. Luigi Pepe put Iroquois ahead on a fine lob shot, with the Bowmanville goalie well out of position at the ninth minute mark. Time and again Whitby stormed the Bowman- v4lle goal area, making numerous , chances, while the, defense. con- tained any Bowmanville attack. but as the inter- val approached, the Iro- quois seemied to relax a littie and allowed Bow- manville to tie things up at the 27th minute. Early in the second haîf, Mark Bateman was brought down fromn behind inside the Bow- manvile penalty larea but thereferee cid flot see it that way, and nO foui was called, wIbether this was the cause of what happened 'after that can be debated but erom that' point the Whitby side just died and 'Bowmanville took over completely and midway through the haif got the goal that stood up as the winner. After two 3 to 2 league defeats by the 1982 league champions Whitby, Bowmanville fully deserved this win and the Iroquois players and staff wish them al the bes t as they play Oshawa Turul in the final. Despite this unifortu- nate let-down, it has been a good year for the Minor Mosquitpes and it is obvious that not only the players but the very co-operative and sup- portive parents and friends are ail looking forward to next season. Preparations have already begun 'for the 1983 season and the Iro- quois side will, be playing ,a ý.,number of exhibition- games and will be giving somne niew players a chance t'o try out.
