The end of the first month of the new school year.,at Henry Street Higli School is drawing to a close. The many bewlldered juniors and assured seniors who came back to classes on September 7 seem to have adjusted to the everyday routine at Henry. Student Coundil start- ed the year off with a bang by staging a sue- cessful initiation which was attended by every- one's favorite hypnotist Mike Mandeil and followed up the next Fri- day by a band dance featuring Odessey. A good time was had by ail who attended. This year, as always, we at, Henry are very proud of our hardwork- ing football team. Stu- dent Council and our vice-principal, Mr. Rhodes have planned a school spirit week start- ing October 10 allowing the student body to show the 'team- their neyer- ending support. The week wiIl be kick- ed off by the sale.-0f but- tons commemorating the special event. On Tuesday, October il at lunch hour there will be an auction of cheerlead- ers and football players in the school cafeteria. Go prepared,ý because the highest bidders will have bought themselves a slave for the day on Wednesday. At lunch hour on Wed- nesday there will be an airband contest. Ru- mour lias it that we may be seeinggroups such as the Beadh 'Boys, the Go Go's and The Clash in our very- own audi- torium. Ail it takes to enter is your favorite record and some prac- tice at lip-synching. But hurry and sign up, now because only ten bands will be accepted. 1Thursday will be the high point of the week's celebrations, the day is none other than that of the Mayor's Cupi1 It will be a day of reckoming whèn the Henry Hawks meet- the Anderson Raiders in a grudge match onHenry's own battlefield. The students frorn both achools' will attempt to out-cheer one another as the two teams fight it out for the coveted Mayor's Cup. On Friday, the school will hold a D.J.s Vie- tory Dance complete with dry ice and a liglit show. We may seem a littie over-confident, but mat- ch 'out Raiders because our record so far this season is 2 to 0 and the Hawks are getting stronger ail the time!1 By COLLEEN CREIGHTON D'OC High School Only the second-week of achool, and already two of DO'C's major events have taken place. September 23 was "Gef Acquainted Day" 1- a special day of sports activities held at Iro- quois Park. The day focused on- the grade>nines, but the whole'sehool fook part and everyone had -a great .finie. ,The 1day culminated with a grade 9 tug-o-war compefition with everyone "pulling hisweight" and more!1 That evening saw the first dance of the school, year. There was whaf looked like record at- tendance; bringing in a healfhy profit for the student council. The D.J., did an excellent job. And then there was the famous DO'C-A- Thon - the thirty kilo- metre trek which took place on September 28. Everyone arrived at sdhlool that morning looking very chipper and alert. The end of the day was a different story 1 The mothers at eaeh of the checkpoints along the way were always a welcome sight. (Espe- cially those at the lunch station at St. Francis de Sales School li Picker- ing Village.) Many people were treated for minor injuries (mainly blisters) along the way, but most people com- pleted the walk. SOnce back at school, we took advantage of the firm, flat grass and just dropped. Many found if diffieult, to get baek on their feet when if was time f0 c atch the buses! Ail in ail, a fun- filled day. Exchange students,, at Anders on By BRENDA LAWSON Anderson Collegate This year at Anderson, there are many new faces. This includes the grade fines, new students and ex- change students. There are four German exchangee students at An- derson until December 2. They are here to improve their English. Aina Lieske and Judith Skoberla are from West Berlin. Stefamie Waitz ia from Mosbacli, West Germany and Ingrid GoIz'is from Bissingen- Teck, West iGermany. Our Anderson girls will be going to> Germany in April 1983. 'Éle German girls are enjoylng their stay here in Canada. The footbalIl teams that are out'practising every day are preparing for the challenge against Henry Street High Sehool for the "Mayor's Cup" . This event is scheduled to take place on October 14 at Henry Street. Both senior and junior football teams are practising very liard to avoid a defeat against Henry. "Let's go, Anderson!" I On Saturday, October 2, the Anderson Concert Band rode in a Bike-a-thon. This ia one of the many fund-raising events undertaken by the band mem- bers. The money. from this 50-kilometre ride wiil go towards the band exchange in May The bike route will take the bikers through Whitby and Brooklin. lI spite of its arduous nature, we hope the bikers Winl make this event into a successful venture.
