WESTMINSTER UNITED CHURCH Choir - Both choirs would welcome new member- ship. The adult choir, under the leadership of Margaret Newton, meets on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., and the junior choir, under the leadership of Lynda Davis meets on Tuesday afternoons at 4 p.m. in the church. Anniversary - Westminster United Church 24th anniversary service is Sunday, November 14 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Elwyn Hughes of Kedron United Church will be the guest speaker. Bazaar - The Westminster annual Christmas bazaar will be held at the church on November 27. CAPERS BALL Dig out your old duds, the fall capers ball to be held at the Masonic Hall on November 20 will follow the theme of Trudeau's fireside chats and be a 'Hard Time Dance'. We plan on doing our bit to help the sagging economy. Tickets are cheap at $10 a couple, sandwiches will feature only half the usual fillings, and drinks - you can only cut down so far. Music will be supplied by Frank Trull or Gary Tummonds (they are both excellent, so whoever or both). Prizes for the best costume, spot dances, door prizes and cash bar. The Ratepayers Association has decided to donate money to purchase playground equipment for any new parks within the Corridor area, so proceeds from the dance will help along these lines. CORRIDOR AREA RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION The Corridor Area Ratepayers Association was formed on December 9, 1973, and chartered under 'Letters Patent', Consumers and Commercial Rela- tions on May 22, 1974. The object of the association is to act as representative for the residents of that Auto Theft A Whitby man suffer- ed nearly $1,500 in·theft and damages when his 1979 Volvo was broken into in Brougham last week, police report. The car, parked over- night at T & M Trans- port at Highway 7 in Brougham, received $900 in damages. The Ratepayers Association is a non-political, non-profit organiza- tion, who do not initiate problems, only respond to them. Funds for the association work are raised by membership fees of $2 per year per family and by social activities such as our semi-annual dances. In the past we have been able to donate to such worthy organizations as the Concordia Dance Band, Whitby Community Care, Garrard Road Lacrosse Associa- tion, Whitby Heart Foundation, Cardiac Rehabilita- tion Association, Festival Singers, free pony rides for kids at the Whiby Winter Carnival, repaired playground at Dr. Robert Thornton Public School to help the T.I.P. organization, loaned out 100-cup cof- fee pot to numerous organizations and individuals. THIRD ANNUAL OSHAWA LEGION TRACK & FIELD HALLOWEEN DANCE The third annual track and field dance for parents and friends will be held at the Oshawa Legion Hall on Saturday, October 30. Tickets are $15 a couple and may be reserved by calling Tony Jones at 668- 2298 or Brenda Arenburg at 579-3134. The dance takes place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will feature a cash bar, lunch and spot dance and door prizes. Profits from the dance will help the children finance their field trips. BAZAAR St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church will hold their annual Kirk Bazaar in the church hall on Saturday, November 13 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mrs. Mc- Clure will officially open thebazaar and there will be many tables of items for sale. ANDERSON COLLEGIATE GRADUATION Anderson Collegiate held their 22nd graduation exercises on Saturday, October 23. School letters were presented to Susan Bissell, Leo Burns, Babs Fletcher, Lorraine Hirst, David Hopkins, Lloyd Hutchinson, Brad Maheu, Kelly Maw, Jay Mussel- man, Reid Rusonik, Lois Stocks, Marg Stuart and S nTrial An Ontario Supreme Court Judge believes the man charged with raping a 15-year-old Whitby girl last January could not have a fair trial in Whitby because of publicity surrounding the trial. Mr. Justice Thomas Callon moved the trial of 25-year-old James Randy Fenney from Whitby to Toronto last Wednesday. Justice Callon said the change of venue would ensure that Fenney would receive an impar- tial trial. Melissa Van Kessel.
