F ZMMP >(PC - Ontario) By the time the Prime Minister began his third television speech, I had some hope. - In bis-first add- ress'he blamed ail our problems on forces beyond his controi. ý In bis second address he said there was nothing that could be done about tbe coming bardt winter except trust one ano 'ther. He announced that there would' be major changes in Ottawa's policies.' When a man. who bas twice promised to resign makes. defeatist statements like that, when he ad- mits he is helpless, and when he ,iIlsists on telling everyone these things coast to coast on national T.V., then I would, expect hlm to do the logical and honorable thing. That's why my hopes were high for'this third speech. I hall anticipated Mr; Trudeau would an- nounce bis resignation But, of course, be dîdn't. He instead put in a few plugs for his favorite topic - national unity - and trotted out the rundown cliches about "acting as a nation" and "finding aur wiII". Many people reacted to the Trudeau broadcasts with cynicism, but I think the majority of Canadian people feit disappointment. Millions of our fellow citiznes are desperately looking for hope and lead-, ership. They would have ýgiven the Prime Minister their bearts andtheir belp had he provided it. Instead, we, were al Jet down. Mr. Trudeau missed a golden opportunity to harness the eager- ness of Canadians ta rescue their economy. I fear that that unbarnessed energy will turn ta, serious frustration and erupt this winter.
