Association Natitve crafts re-establish- values The Station Gallery's current cisplay of native hand crafts helps dispeli the popular mis- conception that sou- venir shops represent the state of the art in In- dian erafts. The three-room dis- play of bead, basket and leatherwork bears wit- ness to the high level of skill and % artistry On- tario Indians have maintained in their work. - C raftsmen from more than 50 locations in Ont- ario have contributed to the exhibition, which is entitled "From Our Hands". .Thewide var- ety of crafts are made from indigenous materials such as lea- ther, sweetgrass, turtle sheils and feathers. At the show's opening Jan. 9, the Toronto Area Native Dancers joined the Medicine Hoop Sing- erg in a demonstration of Indian dance and song. The curious blond of bluejeans and tradi- tional costume worn-by the performers epitom- îzod the themeo0f the exhibit - "re-establish- ing old values and trans- lating them into con- temporary ver- nacular." The high quality of the display, and the amount of time and level 0 f> sklll required for each article is rather awesomo.
