George Ashe, MPP (PC - Durham West) Ontario Minister of Revenue The Ontario Government, through the Secretariat for Social Development, Ontario Youth Secretariat, is continuing to address the issue of student eniploy- ment. Traditionally, the search for a summer job begins during the months of January, February and March; and in these difficuit times, the resourceful- ness of alI Ontarians will be put to the test. I would like to highlight the Student Venture Capital Program> and discuss the unique role which this program plays in providing job opportunities for students. The Student Venture Capital Program provides interest-free boans to students to assist them1 in developing and operating their own smail business for the summer months. The start-up funds, to a maximum of $2,000 per business venture, are avail- able from April 1, 1983 and must be repaid by Oct. 3, 1983. Applicants who are interested in the program must be returning to a high school, college or university, as a full time student, in the fail of 1983. Successful applicants must also be 15 years of age or over at the time the loan is issued. The business activity which is proposed by the student must be conducted in Ontario between April 1land Oct. 3. The Student Venture Capital Program is spon- sored and administerd by the Secretariat for Social Development, Ontario Youth Secretariat in co- operation with the Royal Bank of Canada and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. These agencies will provide interested students with promotional, educational and consultative services as they re- searchi, plan and operate their smail business. The program will be available'in the Durham area and I have been advised that the Ajax, Pickering and Whitby Chambers of Commerce wil be receiving applications, assessing the proposais and making their recommendations to the Ontario Youth Secretariat. The Ontario Youth Secretarjat will give final approval to boan requests and wiil provîde the Royal Bank with the authority to issue a Student Venture Capital Loan. If you would like additional information regard- ing the Student Venture Capital Programn, pe contact my Constituey office at 37 Station Plaza in Ajax (telephone 68-6707). This sun-iner, why flot consider the option which lias been made available by the Ontario Youth Secretariat? After ail, if you have the imagination and the energy, this could be the summer job which could very weil change your life.
