Gus Brown tried everything they had to even the score but Lopes tood bis ground and gave hils team a 3-2 win and the playoffs champ- ionshlp. Mosquito Division. Another exciting game in the Mosquito Division we saw Fireplace Plus fighting it out with the league champions, Opti- mists International. The Optimists had a hard lime trying to knock out the third place finishers, Fire- place Plus, and il took them 17 minutes to open the score. The first haîf ended 1-o for the Opti- niists. In the second half The Firefighters with Kirk Marsh and John Palaz- zolo playing one of their best games, tried every- tbing to lie the score, and allbough the Opti- mists were controlling the game Tim Tatchel put Fireplace Plus on the scoreboard to tie the game and force it into overtime. In the overlime both teamns had a chance to get the winning goal but still ended 1-1. Mfter Fireplace Plus missed the firsl penalty shot Luigi Pepe made no mistake and put the bal into the empty net to give hils team a 2-1 lead and the championship. Atomn Division. The Atom Final featured George Cini Barber Shop and Daddy's Bakery. Daddy's opened strong and nearly went ahead in the first few minutes of the game, however, in the second shift Gavin Dowse drilled home a cross from the righl 10 put Cini one up and settie hils team down. Play continued end to end for the remainder of the fir- st half but no further goals were scored to end the first balf 1-0 George Cini. The second haîf start- ed as the first fimished with both teams coming close to scoring, but Scott Wood put, the game out of reach for Daddy's Bakery with a nicely taken goal from close range. Daddy's Bakery pressed bhard in the final minutes but George Cini's hung on to win the game 2-0 and the championship. Heather Fleming and Mike Bacellieri shone for George Cini Barber Shop, while bonourable mention should go to Neil Henehan and Rob- bie Sutton who put in a fine effort for Daddy's Bakery. Squfrt Division. Anca Lab won the Squirt Division Playoff Championship wilh a 3-0 victory over Whitby Yellows.- Anca Lab led 1-0 aI the end of the first haîf on a goal by Chris Dewdney in the very evenly and well played contest. Yellow's had some good scoring opportuni- ties, however, Anca's' defence led by Dwayne Allen were enchunt to the task. Anca scored two more goals in the second hall to put the championship away on another goal by Chris Dewdney and one by Mathew Payne. Anca Lab will play County Bowl, the league champions, at 1: 30 p. m., March 12, followed by presentations. Whitby Iroquois Swim Club members have been busy during the month of February making waves in various competitions, and hast weekend was no exception for these tà lented 'chlorine ad- diets'. W.I.S.C. swim- mers carried home ad- ditional hardware from the Brampton (COBRA) Invitational on Feb. 25- 27. The three-day meet saw almost 500 swimn- mers from 24 clubs com- pete for trophies, medals and ribbons. Eleven-year-old Janice Currie led her team to a fourîki place finish with a gold, silver and three bronze medals. Particuhariy strong in 10 and under boys even- (s was Matthew Cook, 9, capturing a gold, silver and bronze, and Adrian Vargas, 10, collecting two silver and a bronze. Dave Goulding was the top senior swimnmer winning a silver and a bronze, and 4th, 5th, and 6th placements in other individual events.
