Battling back from an unimpressive pre-Christmas record they turned the tide and have been flying ever since. They firished on top of the round robin play- offs and went on to beat Markham in four games with three wins and a tie to take the Durham Re- gion title. From there it was on to Kingston for a gruel- ling series which took ail five games to decide. Our boys proved to be the best on the ice in the final game, taking the Eastern Championship. They went into the semi-finals against Newniarket with appre- hension. This same team had blown Whitby off the ice in three straight games last year. After losing the first gaie by one goal, Whitby proceeded to take. the next three gaines ensuring them a shot at the Ontario title. The first game for the Ail-Ontarlo Champion- ship against Riverside was played at Iroquois Park on Saturday, April 2. Wbitby won this penalty ridden game. which took two-and-one- half hours to complete, by a score of 7-2. The second game on Sunday saw a cleaner, faster gaine, and although Whitby was two players short in the line-up, they came out on top with a 5- 3 win. The score would have been higher save for exceptional goal tending on both sides. The next two gaines are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday in Riverside (Windsor) with the final game, if necessary, to be played- back at Iroquois on Sun- day, April 10. Best of luck to coach- es Benny LaHaye, John Muir and aIl the boys. Let's hope they can wrap it up Friday night with a win and bring the All-Ontario Champ- ionship home to Whitby. Both boys and girls play box lacrosse. Some tykes started playing lacrosse at the age of 4. The upper age limit for midgets is 18.' Players- who did not play last year should bring their birth certifi- cate and their OHEP number. Lacrosse promotes a high degree of fitness among the players, and a good deal of comrad- ery amongst the parepts as they watch practices, games and tournamen- ta. Pat and Mario's travel to Otw By ANDO LUIK Pat and Mario's Major Peewees of the Brooklin Whitby Hockey Association travelled to' Ottawa for an Easter weekend tournament. The teain was unde- -feated in three gaines, winning two and tying one, yet in spite of their successful record wero unable to advance. This occurred due to a goal for Formula Format in the preliminary round. Pait and Mario's de- feated East Ottawa 4-I in! their first game. Troy McKay and John Wind- over scored singles while Justin Moore got a pair. In their second game the Peewees won 3-2 over Nepoan, the Ot- tawa District Champ- ions, on goals by Danny Pratt with ono and Miko Reier with two. Their last gaine was against Ottawa West. Mike Reier scored the lone goal for Whitby in a 1-1 tie. -A fine aIl around teain effort producod this-fine record against "AAA" competition.
