NEIGHBOURHOOD AWARENESS PROGRAM >- WORKS The Neigbbourhood Awareness Program, initiated iast July in tbe Whitby Town Estates development, bas proven to be extremely success- fui. Prior to the community get-together, numnerous break-ins and otber offending incidents bad oc- curred. The neighbourbood is now keenly aware of the problems and tbe Durham Regionai Police bave been moot helpfui, outlining many borne security devices to belp prevent crime. However, the group did not stop there. Witb the belp of the Ratepayers Association, pamphlets bave been prlnted and distributed periodicaily within the area, to help keep residents informed. Neigbbours are on the look-out for any strange vebicles or per- sons, and when in doubt, do not hesitate to caîl police. Even if the incident turns out to be a false alarm, better to be safe tban sorry. Residents of the Pringle Creek subdivision are contempiating a similar group. We wisb you ail tbe best, and remember, it really does work. Witby Town Estates is a good example of tbe Neiglabour- bood Awareness Program belping to combat crime. BROOKLIN DEVELOPMENT Stiil more deiays in tbe proposed Brooklin development. There is no question tbat the develop- ment would 'ensure Brooklin residents tbe necessary sewers and w ater for their weil being.' It bas been suggested tbat the Ministry of Agricul- ture is witbholding approval because of their genuine concern for loss of prime farm land. This may be so, but in the past, in Whitby alune, thousands of acres of prime farm land bas been carved up by the developer's scalpel, witbout ulduly upsettlng tbe ministry. I would strongly suspect there are various other reasons wby approval for the Brooklin development basbeen witbbeid! WELCOME TO WHITBY AND CANADA Mr. and Mrs. D.
