Thiteen-year-old Christina McDonald took top honors i the Junior womnen's compul- sory and optional even- ts, making her the junior national champ- ion. "We're thrilled, it's qulte an accomplish- ment," said Debbie Vid- mar, Christina's assist- ant coach at the Oshawa Gemini Gymnastie Club. "It helps her because she is relatively new on the national scene,"I added Ms. Vidmar. "Winning the junior na- tionals surprised a lot of people who- weren't aware of her." Christina, a student at St. John the Evanigelist School, won the bars and vault and placed well enough on the floor and beam to take the victory. She will compete in the 'Canaclian Classic gymnasties event June 25 in Toronto. She will be up against competi- tors from the United States, France, Italy and Australia. 1Lori Strong,, also a WhitbY girl, placed third i the overal nov- ice compétition.
