Brooklin jumped on Whitby piteher Dav«r Withers for three run in the first inning to provide the winning margin. After Bill Grylis singled, Larry Down reached. base on a fielders choice. Grylis scored on Steve Grylis fielders choice as Whit- by attempted to cut, down, the runner at home plate, with no suc- cess. Down and Gryils both scored on -an ap- parent home r by' Wayne Sorichetti, but Whitby appealed that, Sorichetti -had flot touched second base on his trot around the cir- cuit. The umpire agreed with' the appeal and ruled hlm out. Whltby could not mount much of an at- tack unti the seventh- Éinng when Bob Muir ,walked, Dean Knight slngled, with both run- ners advancing on, a sacrifice bunt by Wayne Owen. The Legionaires closed to within one'run in the eighthas Doug Seeley singled, stole second, went to third on a passed bail and scored when Peter Sldorkiewlcz hit 'into a fielders choice. >Whitby hurler D-ave Withers pitched a strong game as he whiffed 12 batters and alowedfive hits. Paul Maccrimmon plcked up the win as he struck out three over seven innings. Bian Van Volkenburg finished up, pickcing. up the- save with four strikeouts over the final two imnings. SOCCER The Whltby Atom girls soccer team won two games before losing in a Brampton tour- nament this past weekend. Whitby won their first game by luck- of the draw with a bye. .They, then proceedçd to defeat Streetsville 1-0 with Pamela Hemehan seoring the lone goal. Erin Neilly and Karen Thompson shared the shutout i the Whitby net. Burlington ended Whitby's hopes with a 6- 0 victory. Shane, Bevan blasted in three goals for the Whitby team, sponsored by Cheekers, Variety. Brad Stella, Derek, Dixon and Shayne Bayford each scored a single goal. Kevin Fraser with two, Daniel Quick and Jeff Leroux replied for Ajax. Strong defensive per- formances by Mike Molson and Frank Stefanowlcz contributed to the'win.
