The Pickering Trojans, highly touted as possible league champs, were comîng off a 22-19 upset loss to the O'Neill Redmen. The tone of the game was set early as the Hawks- fine running back Tom Clarke went down with an injury. The Hawks, already missing Clarke's back- field mate Rich Daley, proved to be easy picking for the Trojans who posted a 20-O vie- tory. Henry coach Pat Pucknell admitted the backfield injuries upset his team's strategy. "*We haci to move a good wide receiver Steve Blackburn into the backfield, and this took a lot of our passing game away, " he said. "It's just a matter of twogood teams meeting but when we made men- tal errors, , they capitallzed," he added. Kevin .Thornton scored the only first half touchdown and the con- version by Rich Smith made the score 7-O. With only 27 seconds remaining in thé haîf, Pickering marched to the Hawks 25-yard line but fumbled the bal away on a draw play. A Henry turnover on a fumble early in the third quarter led 'to the Trojans second major. Pickering took' four cracks at the score from inside the Henry eight- yard line before Bruce Kovack bulled over for the score Smith added the conversion. The Hawks appeared to be on the verge of narrowing the gap as they moved the bahl downfield to the one- yard line. A quick flare pass was stopped for a two-yard loss.
