On September 28, the grade il and 12 Family Studios Class went for the day Into downtown Toron.- to. While in Toronto, the classes visited'places such as Kensington Market, the Ecology House and shops in the Bay-Bloor area. Each class member was asked to work on a different item in these areas. The cooking group discovered a new variety of food in the Xensington Market. The "sewing group" fashioned a fail wardrobe to fit a certain financial budget. The "Ihousing group", who visited the Ecology House, compared the modemn gadgets there to their own homes. The trip gave everyone a chance to explore ethnie backgrounds, different customs, newer housing, and up-to-date fashions, ail in one day. - Also on Sept. 2, Anderson students went to the Stratford Festival. The Festival'was started in 1953 by Tyrone Guthrie, a British producer-director. During the first four years pîsys were staged in a large circus tent. Then in 1957,a permanent theatre was built on the banks of the Avon River. This festival is now inter- nationaily famous, with people coming from around the world to enjoy its performances. Well. Meanwhile back to the achool, other thlngs ýoc- curred. On Thursday, October 13, Anderson was defeated. by Henry Street High School for the Mayor's Cup. Once again although Henry walked off' with the cup, the Anderson players are to be commended for their valiant effort.. Anderson plans to get it back next year. Remem- ber this, Henry Street!11 You may have won another battle, but you haven't won.the war. Another busy event at'Anderson was the annual Penny Drive. The Students Couneil was i charge of the Penny Drive and the president, Loring Palleske, said this about the drive: "This is our way of raising money for our foster children and the Ieftovers are going to a good cause-The United Way. We would appreciate the students' support. " Every home room participated actively for the Penny Drive by holding bake sales, car washed, sock hops, and other innovative events. Every year Andersonians have always managed to have an ex- cess to give to the United Way and this year we have managedto do the samne. Well done, Andersonians!1 Anderson is bustling with. activities to follow. Coming up are graduation at 2:30 p.m., on Oc1l.ý'ker, 22 and the Graduation Dance.that evening. Har- wood,6 to, 1,on their second to last game Tuesday. The boys are fighting for, a play-off position ' next week. They are presently tied with Anderson a nd Pickering ini the stan- dings. The goal scorers in Tuesday night's vic- tory,, were Mark Buch' anan ' with two, Mike' Murphy, -Vinny Branigan, :Richard Hadden and^ Barry Murphy, wlth one a piece. Harwood's only goal. came from a- penalty shot. Wednesday night the Junior boys played an exhibition game against Paul Dwyer. Dwyer has already made the play- offs in their division. Af- ter obt.aining a qulck 2-0 lead, DO'C lot up and Dwyer came back with the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead. However, DO'C came back to tiethe-score in the second haif. Barry Murphy scored two goals . while Vinny Branigan scored the other goal. The' senior boys soc- cor team scored four goals in the first half and one in the second to defeat Harwood 5-0. Sconing for DO'C were Jeff VandenBoom with two, Bernie Morton, Waily Borg and Yorn Berlestei, ail with 1. The seniors were one player short because of the grade 13 retreat. Bernie Morton filled in and played a strong game. Our mdgtladies basketball team pl.ayed their, fourth game of the season against Ajax. The ladies played an aggressive and suc.- in the game and took a commandlng ý ,lead. Scoring was b y t4e following: 'Cindy Jim-ý mo, 13 point s; -Ters 'Meulensteen, six poin- ts; Eleanor' Pawelski, Kathy Creighton, Tanya Evans, and Catherine Sowden, four points; Joisie .Peschisvledo, Ann McLaughlin, Tracy Fernandez and- Jackie Leung with two points a piece. The final score was DO'C 45, Ajax il. Our record now stands with an impressive three wins and one losè. The' junior DO'C Chargers evened their record to 2-2 with a thrashing of,50-17 over Ajax. Scoring for DO'C were Commie, Meulen- steen 12, Marg Rzymin- ski il, Catherine Barber eight, Kelly Sowden seven,, Veronica Fil and Jocelyn Kwan, four each and Pauline Van- dermeer and Yola Rzymski, two a piece. Approximately* 70 percent of the DO'C-A- THON pledges have been collected. The final push la needed to bning the last 30 percent In. Last week the grade- 13 students took part i a spiritual renewal and community building program at Reainp: Mundi Farm in Sharun.
