Although preparations for canvassing and public awareness are afready underway, the 011F still needs volun- teers in the Whitby area for the positions of Publicity Chairmnan, Public Education Chairman, Special Events Person,, Cap- tains, and door-to-door canvassers. Jackie Guthrie, Whit- by Campaign Chairper- son, is. beginning her third year as a volun- teer armed and ready for the event. She recen- tly attended the annual meeting and workshop of the 011F at the Westin Hotel in Toronto, and has been busy planning the campaign in the Town 0f Whitby. She asksi anyone who is lnterested in par- ticipating as a Heart Fund volunteer to con- tact her at 668-3855 as soon as posible. Gone'but. not forgotten A photo of Earl MeEvers was plaeed in the lobby of Andersoný Collegiate and Vocational Institute last week in meniory of the late custodian. McEvers, 53, <whoý lived at 244 Meadow Rd., in Whitby, sud- denly collapsed while on duty at the school on the evening of Jan. 3. He is survived by his wife, Lillian, and daughter, Leann, 0f Whitby, and son, Mark of Willowdale. Both son and daughter are graduates of ACVI. Co-worker, Matt Zevenhoven, remem- bers his friend as a quiet easy-going man who en- joyed work. i "The harder the job the-better he liked it," he said of McEvers, "We had a lot in com- mon and we got along real good." "I have mixed emotions right now," he confessed sadly. Earl MeEvers Michael Freeman, head of the history department, and an acquaintance of -the family, remembers him as a "friendly, but shy fellow." Fred Parrott, prin- cipal of ACVI, said he was, very well liked by everyone who knew Nim., "H1e always had pleasant words to say." George -,Cuyler, supervising custodian, also gave his impressio«n of the man. "Earl was very knowledgeable,' self- reliant,, and down-to- earh."y Cuyler fondly recails what McEvers'used to say if you wanted something that was too expensive, "Ail you got- ta do is get out a real sharp pendi and get the figures to match what you want." Although he began to work at Anderson only about 1½ years ago, his co-workers, the faculty, and students *wi not forget this good-natured man.
